THANK YOU

Thank you all for your continued help to sponsor these wonderful children, patient in our reforms and rebuilding, and keeping alive this wonderful charity.  We continue to move forward, especially after two devastating earthquakes, and now off-and-on border closures crippling the country, especially the poor. Most of the children will be returning from their villages in the next week.

Kathmandu Update

After Nepal declared its new constitution, strikes in the borders started by certain unsatisfied groups and Nepal-India Border has been blocked for more than two months. The whole  nation is facing hard times. Kathmandu is in crisis with shortage of food, fuel and many other necessary goods. Lives are being hard to run. People have to sleep in the street while staying in queue to buy cooking gas. Food markets are suffering shortages, and vehicles are hardly running, and passengers are forced to ride in overcrowded buses… the situation is getting worse day by day. Here are some pictures from the media:

Meanwhile the new President of Nepal has been elected by the parliament. Good news is that the new president Mrs. Bidhya Bhandari who is the first female President in the history of Nepal.  Women and children were the least prioritized in Nepal. But the modifications made in  law in recent years has favored women and children. This is bringing changes.  The efforts of Non-Governmental Organizations and International Non-Governmental Organizations gets huge credit to upgrade the standard of women and children and helping to protect their rights. As the new government has formed, we hope for better laws and actions to come out in favor of child rights, women rights, as well as human rights.

Neco President Home After Surgery

Bishow Bhatta

As some of you may remember, Bishow temporarily left his job in California (losing his salary for 3 months) to assist the rebuilding of our Orphanage after Nepal’s the first earthquake. During the second earthquake, he fell off a walking bridge onto a concrete sidewalk severely fracturing his hand and foot. His foot required titanium implants which was done here in Kathmandu. Upon returning to California, surgeons learned that the implants were done wrongly, the reason for his continued pain and mobility problems. His surgery was recently completed and he was sent home, but back on crutches for another 6-8 weeks, and unable to work, thus losing more income to support his family. Please remember him in your prayers, so this time, he may have a full recovery.

Featured Child Of The Month

Ram Bahadur Gurung

image07

I am Ram Bahadur Gurung. I am living in NECO as a member  since 2012. I am studying in grade 5.

After my father died in an accident,  my mother left me and my elder brother and married to the next guy. After that, she never came back, not even to see how we were living. Later, I was admitted to NECO but my brother still lives in village, does some works, earns little and still managing to study. He is 9th grade student now.

A few weeks ago, I had gone to my village on my school holidays. I couldn’t believe on my eyes that the Earthquake had caused massive destruction there. My village “Barpak- Gorkha”  is the place which was the epicenter of The Earthquake of 25th April 2015. . My brother was fine  but we lost our small house made up of mud and woods. I felt very bad that my brother was living in a small hut which was built by the local Government for the earthquake victims. Before I returned back from there, I told my brother not to worry and give strength to him to fight with the situation. God will show us the way and help me and my brother finish our studies then after, we will live together, work and earn for living. Life will be wonderful !!!

I am 5th grade student now, but all of my classmates are junior than me as I started schooling very late. I am 15 years old now, feel myself as a youth 🙂 My mustache is clearly visible.  I have sound health and strong body. I feel like I can do everything by my own. But I need to focus on my studies for now and be a good and sincere member of NECO.  I am very much thankful to NECO for converting a helpless child to a youth with knowledge and self-confidence. All children along with me should feel lucky to ourselves that NECO didn’t let us suffer in our childhood, It caught our hands, fulfilling our every necessities, teaching various knowledge and virtues and leading us to a wonderful future. Thank you.
