Life of a Children in NECO Home
“I'm Bina Gurung. I read in class four. I am 13 years old. I am from very remote areas of Gorkha District. I have lived in NECO Home for seven years. I would like to tell you about myself.
“I was born in 2003 in a poor family. There are six members in my family. My father left me at the age of three years old. My mother can't worked. She had not any job to work. No matter how hard my Mom tried, she couldn't afford for us to go to school or have enough food to eat. We didn't have enough warm clothes in the winter seasons. How difficult at that time to survive, I couldn't imagine. Sometimes, we didn’t have rice to eat, and my mum borrowed it from the neighbor.
“At that bad conditions, Ramesh sir helped my mother to take me in NECO Home. Here, NECO Home gave me a lot of facilities. I used to be happy from that day. I go to school every day of the week. NECO Home helped me to study. I love drawing. My aim is to be a great Doctor and Artist. If you help me in my study, I think I will be able to fulfill my aim and help my family as well as children like me in future. Love, Bina.”
Birthday of This Month
Rashmi Kandel, now 11. This month only Rashmi had a birthday. All the children enjoyed singing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song, eating Black Forest cake, dancing and later eating delicious foods for dinner. So Happy Birthday Rashmi!
Celebrating Rakshya Bandan
A Strong Thread of Love between Brother and Sister
Raskha means “bond of protection”. It is a Hindu festival which celebrates on the full moon the love and duty between brothers and sisters. It is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who may or may not be biologically related.
On this day, NECO children celebrate with great joy and fervor by tying Rakhi (sacred thread) to the wrists of their brothers and sisters as a symbol of love.

The children also received thread named "Kacho Dhago" from a local priest. The ritual symbolically represents a blessing to bestow joy and happiness to each individual life.
