A YEAR - END MESSAGE
It's the end of the year, and we would like to say a heartfelt thank-you to all our supporters, volunteers and the entire NECO team; thank you so much for being supportive, obedient and faithful to our children.
It has been a difficult year in many respects (esp. due to the Earthquake), and we faced many challenges; despite this, we have taken great strides in this year, and grown in so many ways. Indeed, it has been a year full of support, blessings, new endeavors, new relationships, and a multitude of exciting opportunities for our children. All of these were made possible by the continuous support of all our friends, family and sponsors and by our founder Mr. Bishow Bhatta, who never failed to surprise us with his kindness and love at every step.
This holiday season, Mr. Bishow has even surprised us by coming unknowingly and bringing with him an abundance of energy, love and many gifts.
Finally, an enormous thank you to all who have contributed many more resources in this year, it is truly appreciated.
Thank You,
Samjhana Gurung
TAEKWONDO
This month, the eldest children put in tons of training time and hard work to prepare for two major Taekwondo events, The first being a national competition, and the second was a grading process, as the students work towards their black belts. A huge congratulations to Ratan for achieving his full black belt, and to Anusha, Chokki, Sharmila and Ram Parsad for succeeding to
earn their half-black belts!
NEW CHROMEBOOKS
When Mr. Bishow arrived, he surprised us all with an incredible donation of 14 new Chromebooks, generously supplied for us by the NECO Foundation, Gerald, and Mr Bishow himself. We are so grateful to have received such a powerful study resource for the NECO
children.
We would also like to thank Mr John and Catherine L for their donations of laptop computers for our eldest high school and college students. They are very much appreciated.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! We hope each of you enjoyed this time of peace, hope and joy surrounded with family, friends and good times. Here at NECO, the children had an exciting Christmas morning, making cards and wrapping gifts to exchange with their classmates. We were also so blessed to receive a generous gift from the US, and to enjoy a delicious Christmas Eve barbecue together.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Maharshi School hosts many events and competitions for the students to participate in, and the NECO children always do exceptionally well. Congratulations to Bibek, son of one of our caretakers, who humbly captured first place in the school’s speech competition earlier this month, and to Babita for landing an honourable 4th place in her debate competition!
CHILD OF THE MONTH
Meet Rashmi. Reserved in manner, but don't let her quietness fool you - she is a fun loving, strong young girl, who will astound you with the amount of knowledge she retains from listening to others. We’ll let Rashmi tell you a bit about herself.
“ My name is Rashmi Kandel. I’m 10 years old, and I read in class 4. I am come from Gulmi, it is in central Nepal. My favorite class at school is math. I like to do skipping and hula hooping with my friends too. I came to NECO 1 years ago. The facilities here are much
nicer than I had in Gulmi. I love NECO home very
much.”
Rashmi is not yet sure what occupation she would like to be involved in when she grows up, but she is an incredibly intelligent and motivated student, and there is no doubt that she will excel no matter where life takes her.
BIRTHDAYS OF THE MONTH
We had our only two December birthdays just one day apart. Wishing a very Happy Birthday to Kriti and Ramesh! May each of you have a magnificent year full with peace, joy and dreams achieved.
And so, another wonderful year has drawn to a close, and we would like to wish you all a blessed and Happy New Year! We look forward to many more adventures together in 2017
